About

Kristen Havens, Writer/Editor

A native of Connecticut currently living in Los Angeles, I graduated Dartmouth College with a B.A. in Anthropology. After several years working in advertising, video production and documentary filmmaking, I took a position in small press publishing. In my years as a Marketing Manager at Tallfellow Press, I helped the company become one of the first publishers to utilize blogs and virtual author tours in the promotion of its books and authors.

In 2005, my understanding of the unique business challenges facing creative writers lead me to start a consultancy offering social media training and support to book authors. I’ve launched, edited, and consulted on a variety of blogs and social media campaigns by bestselling authors, including Barbara Delinsky (Family Tree), Phil Town (Rule #1), and Dr. Michael Breus (Beauty Sleep).

My first love, though, is writing — using language to define and refine a mission, create a mood or emotion, and drive people to take action. As a freelance writer, I’ve been lucky to work on some exciting projects, including the Ogilvy Public Relations’ global website re-launch and the new Special Olympics website; and designing fundable programs and writing grants for the non-profit New York Summer Music Festival.

The best part of my job is learning about what you do – your business accomplishments, people and mission — and designing a plan to bring your passion to the surface for customers, clients, and funders to see.
